Racism 1st Post
I went to cnn.com and luckily right on the homepage I found this article on racism

Today, how serious of an issue is racial bias in this country? Would you say the problem is very serious, somewhat serious, not too serious or not serious at all?
This article was very interesting to read and learn about but it was also very disturbing to know how blacks and whites think so differently about one subject. Although racism should be out of our society for good, it clearly hasn’t left. It seems as if nothing has really changed except that racism is more hiddin and brought about in society. A poll was given from December 5th until the 7th by telephone and the people who took the poll were either black or non hispanic white. They were asked how serious of a problem was racism in todays society. It was astonishing to see the results because of the differences between the two races and how different they thought of the issue.

This is related to Huck Finn because Huck lives in a time where racism is a very normal thing, it wasn’t uncommon in that time to be racist and prejustice to blacks because that’s the way people were thinking in those days. The book also takes place before the civil war so not only is racism towards blacks normal but it was still in the era of slaves.
I used the same article as you, and my reactions were pretty similar to yours. I thought it was interesting that different racial groups think differently of racism. A generalization is that African Americans are usually the victims of such race based hatred, while the caucasian race isn’t. Obviously, this really affects their views on the existence of today’s society.
